Newcastle Town Football Club have dedicated their lounge to James Blakeman, in honour of decades of support.

Phil and Sue were invited to Newcastle Town this week and were thrilled to see the lounge that the club had dedicated to their father’s name. Phil said;

“It is a fitting tribute to Dad and a touching gesture from his beloved club. He would be proud to see his legacy at the club preserved in this way. Sue and I were delighted to be invited to come along to the opening of the lounge and to hear their stories of his time here”

James Blakeman was as renowned for his love of football as he was for the sausage empire that he built. His love of the sport began at a very early age and saw him play for Stoke City’s junior team and Luton Town. One of his favourite moments to reminisce upon was the time he played against the legendary forward Sir Stanley Matthews. When the opportunity arose for him to become involved with his closest non-league club, Newcastle Town, he jumped at it and enjoyed every minute of his time spent there.

The club’s relationship with Jim began in the early 80’s, soon after it was founded, where he served in various roles at the club over many years as Chairman, Director and supporter. He was proud of the team’s achievements as well as their long history with youth development. Many of their former players now playing professionally. Club Director, Gavin Appleby said;

“We were pleased to be able to honour Jim and the fantastic support that he offered our football club over the years. Newcastle Town FC would not be the club it is today without his commitment, leadership and support. It is a small gesture, but it’s one that I think he would appreciate. It was also great to share some of the many stories we have about Jim with his family. He will certainly be missed by many people.”
